Privacy Policy

Bible Match is a Christian nonprofit dedicated to encouraging Scripture engagement. This policy explains how we handle your data with transparency and "Privacy by Design."

1. Information We Collect

a. Information You Provide

  • Account Credentials: Email address (used solely for OTP authentication and security) and your chosen Username.

  • User-Generated Content (UGC): Reflections, Bible verse matches, "Amens," and comments.

  • Profile Data: Optional information you choose to display on your profile (e.g., favorite verse).

b. Information Collected Automatically

  • Technical Data: Device type, OS version, and app performance logs.

  • Timezone: We detect your device's timezone to deliver the "Daily Match" notifications at 7:00 AM local time. We do not collect precise GPS location.

  • Sensitive Data: Interactions with Scripture may reveal religious beliefs. We process this data only to provide the app’s spiritual features and never for profiling or advertising.


2. How We Use Your Information

  • Authentication: To verify your identity via Secure OTP.

  • Community Interaction: To display your reflections and matches to other users.

  • Safety & Moderation: To investigate reports of conduct that violates our Christian Community Guidelines.

  • Non-Commercial Mission: As a nonprofit, we never sell your data to third parties or data brokers.


3. Third-Party Services & APIs

We partner with a limited number of "Processors" to keep the app running:

  • Scripture Tools: We use third-party Bible APIs to provide verse search. Your personal account data is not shared with these API providers.


4. Privacy Controls & Visibility

  • Public vs. Private: You may set your profile to "Only Me" to hide your bio and friend list.

  • The Username Exception: To maintain community accountability and safety, when you post a reflection or match a verse, your Username will remain visible to other users even if your profile is set to private.


5. Age Requirement (16+)

Bible Match is strictly for users aged 16 and older. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16. If we discover an account belongs to a minor under 16, it will be deleted immediately.


6. Data Retention & Your "Right to Vanish"

a. Account Deletion: You can delete your account at any time via the "Delete Account" button in Settings. Upon deletion:

  • Your Email, Real Name, and Friend List will be permanently erased from our active servers.

  • Your Username will be removed from all public posts.


b. UGC Anonymization: To preserve the context of community discussions, your reflections and comments will not be deleted but will be anonymized. They will appear as "Deleted User" so that other users' "Amens" and replies remain meaningful.


7. Security Standards

We protect your data using TLS 1.3 encryption for all transfers (including OTP). Admin access to user emails is restricted to essential support and safety personnel and is protected by Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA).
